Semi final of the Cup and a tough game away at Crystal palace ahead of us. If the girls played to the top of their ability and we had a bit of luck we could upset the odds and win.
However the game was probably lost for us in the first 10 minutes with Crystal Palace scoring 3 goals in quick succession, this did two things, gave us a mountain to climb and gave Palace an enormous amount of confidence.
Credit needs to go to the girls for getting back in the game in the first half with Morgan scoring a great goal and the defence doing a good job to limit the palace attack to only 1 further goal.
Half Time Walderslade 1 Palace 4
Crystal Palace were cruising in the second half and although we had some chances to score through Amy K, Lucy and Morgan it was one way traffic.
The defence tried their best but Palace played some good football and managed to score 4 further goals.
Full Time Walderslade 1 Palace 8
We need to put this game behind us and concentrate of the league from now on. We can play better than we did today but Crystal Palace are in a different league to the rest of the teams in our league and will probably go on to win the cup and the league title.
The hardest thing for me today was hearing the over enthusiastic shouting and cheering from the Palace supporters when they scored their 8th goal which sounded like they had just scored the winning goal in the last minute of extra time in the cup final. It is nice to see they take so much joy from a team being so comprehensively beaten, a bit of dignity would have been appreciated. It is not about taking anything away from the Crystal Palace players, who played excellently and deserved the win, it is about teaching 12 year old girls to respect their opposition regardless of the result.
Morgan, who played excellently, was deservedly awarded Player of the Match.
Well done girls lets look forward to our next match.
